MUxLL

A shelter run for prisoners, by ex-prisoners.

In 2019, two women who had themselves been detained in Mexico, started a shelter for female prisoners.  Mujeres Unidas Por La Libertad translates as women united in liberty.

Here, Adriana, one of the founders, explains the work that they do and the importance of having support on the outside.

Betty Maldonado Cruz, Adriana's partner, estimates that 70% of women in prison in Mexico do not receive a visitor.

Without support from the outside or a source of income, women have no access to basic toiletries or even sanitary products to have a dignified period.
